What is Reiki?
Reiki, (pronounced ray-kee) is a non-intrusive form of natural healing which has probably existed for many hundreds of years. The word "Reiki" means universal life force or energy. We are born with this life force energy, but when it becomes low or depleted we may become ill, either physically or emotionally. Reiki is a natural, safe and simple method of allowing you to absorb more of this life force energy through the hands of the Reiki practitioner. It is a hands-on healing technique which was "rediscovered" during the early twentieth century by a Japanese doctor of theology Dr Mikao Usui.
How do I "get" Reiki
A Reiki session is usually called a treatment and normally lasts for around one hour. The person receiving the treatment allows the Reiki energy to be drawn in by themselves with beneficial effects
Normally the person lies down fully clothed on a couch or suitable table. Starting at the head, the practitioner places his/her hands in various positions directly on the client, or where more appropriate, a few inches above it.
The natural energy then flows form the hands of the Reiki practitioner into the recipient. Most people find the overall experience a deeply relaxing and stress reducing experience. This feeling is often enhanced by the playing of soft background music.
